Ok - so it is a big move. I know its a big move, everybody I know, knows its a big move. But it is what it is ... and whatever will be, will be. Que Sera Sera.
The flight was uneventful and as we were flying in to Darwin, I started getting excited about my new adventure! I could see lots o greenery out the windows and not much else!
Got to the Budget counter and there was a back in 5 minutes sign. Thinking it was my first test of living on "Darwin time" I decided not to get bothered by it .... and chilled. 20 minutes later I asked a lady at another counter where the Budget girl was ... got the reply that she couldn't be far away, so kicked back for a little longer! After half an hour I asked a different lady, she made a phone call, told me the Budget girl would be a few more minutes ... well it turned out to be an hour in total! Still, I didn't worry about it.
Jumped in the car ready to find my hotel ... only to find it almost on the puierimeter of the car park! If I had known it was so close, I could have walked there instead of waiting an hour for the car! Ha!
Then they didn't have my booking ... gave them my details, but it took them 20 minutes or so to get it sorted! Thought ... hmmm there is another lesson in waiting! I jumped in the shower, and decided to get straight into exploring Darwin. Was starving so I stopped at Red Rooster. Pulled up to the order thingy and no-one answered! I drove up to the window and the girl was just standing there waiting! I ordered and it took forever! The girl came back 20 minutes later with a look of surprise that I was still waiting!
Went off to explore Darwin ... first impression? Not finished! Very green, with lots of construction going on. Very quiet. Somebody said it was similar in size to Geelong. I don't think I could agree with that, it seemed a lot smaller. I drove around most of it in about an hour and a half. Checked out a few places to live etc ... still no closer to deciding where I will end up.
Anyway its 10pm EST ... only 8.30 in Darwin, but I am exhausted ... almost fell asleep (WAITING ... AGAIN!) in the cue for the dinner at the hotel bistro ... apparently they had only rostered one chef on ... and they had been swamped...
So goodnight, I must go and plan my day for tomorrow ... and go to bed!!!
